Good or bad a thousandfold!" --Hood. It would be beyond the scope of this work to give a full account of the Klondike gold-fields, and of the rush that followed the unearthing of their rich deposits. However, for the sake of those who may be ignorant of the facts and to throw light on the work of the Missionary in Dawson, we must say something of the general excitement occasioned by the announcement of the discovery. Athough the new gold-fields were discovered in August, 1896, such were the difficulties of communication between that icy region and the outer world, that it was not until the early summer of 1897, that the newspapers startled the United States by the story of the fabulous richness of the Klondike.
